My name is Issis Haydel. I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia. In the sixth grade, my family moved to New Orleans, where my parents and their families were originally from. In New Orleans, I became involved in politics and theatre. As a freshman in high school, I started to gain an interest in politics as the 2016 presidential campaign was getting closer and more intense. I remember the political analysts on the morning news breaking down each candidate’s views. Everything that was said interested me. I found myself enjoying my parent’s political conversations. I found myself wanting to get involved in every conversation. This feeling only intensified as I grew older. Now, I am a first-year political science major at Agnes Scott College.

As a Junior, I tried out for my first musical. At the time, I had stage fright. While performing on stage didn’t cause my fear to disappear, it did make it manageable. I quickly learned about my love for being on and behind stage. On the stage, I learned how to speak to people and evoke emotion. Behind the stage as a stage manager, I learned leadership. I learned to solve problems and improve experiences, these qualities in partnership with my love for politics, led me to the idea of practicing law in a form to help people and make the policy changes that are needed to further our nation.
